Additionally, Pennsylvania boasts affordable housing in many areas, with median home prices lower than the national average outside major metros. However, property taxes and infrastructure can vary, with some counties experiencing high property taxes and rural areas lacking modern infrastructure. The state also has a passionate sports culture, with loyal fans and fierce city rivalries.

Commuters often encounter delays on highways and in urban centers, leading to increased travel time and stress. Pennsylvania’s high population of striped skunks, averaging one skunk per 10 acres in prime habitat and 13.5 skunks per square mile in agricultural areas, can be problematic for residents due to the frequent noxious odors they release, which can linger for days. Skunks also present a risk of transmitting diseases like rabies to both pets and humans. Their digging behavior can also lead to damage to lawns, gardens, and property foundations.

9. Pros: Pennsylvania is Relatively Safe from Natural Disasters

Pennsylvania enjoys a low occurrence of natural disasters, making it an attractive place to reside due to its relative safety from extreme weather events. Its inland location and diverse terrain, encompassing mountains and valleys, provide protection against the worst impacts of natural calamities.

10. Cons: Aging Infrastructure Leads to Maintenance Delays

Many of Pennsylvania’s infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and water systems, are aging, resulting in construction, detours, and occasional service interruptions, particularly in older cities like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. While efforts are underway to modernize certain areas, the wear and tear on infrastructure can impact daily life and commute.
