Moving multiple times in a lifetime is a common experience for many, with the average person moving around 11 or 12 times. While moving is often stressful, there are ways to make the process more manageable. Redfin has gathered some moving hacks from professional movers to help ease the transition when moving from your current residence in Houston, Atlanta, Raleigh, or elsewhere.

1. Photograph Your Electronics Before Disconnecting

Taking photos of your electronics’ wiring before unplugging them can simplify the reconnection process in your new space, saving time and reducing stress.

Professional mover Walter Kowalski recommends this practice to make setting up your gadgets easier.

2. Keep Pets and Kids Safe During the Move

To prevent accidents during the move, ensure that children and pets are safely out of the way. This not only keeps them safe but also allows the movers to work efficiently without unexpected obstacles.

Sarah Terrano from MHC Moving emphasizes the importance of planning ahead for the safety of pets and young children on moving day.

3. Get the Non-Essentials Packed Early

Start packing non-essential items well in advance of your move to avoid last-minute stress. Packing items like seasonal clothes and decorations early can make the final week before moving less overwhelming.

Ashraj Singh Sidhu of KAD Moving and Storage advises labeling boxes clearly and packing non-essentials at least two weeks before the move.
