Solana Co-Founder Sued for Allegedly Stealing ‘Millions of Dollars’ Worth of Crypto Staking Rewards: Report

A lawsuit has been filed against Stephen Akridge, a co-founder of Solana, for allegedly misappropriating income earned from his ex-wife’s crypto holdings. The complaint, filed by Elisa Rossi in the San Francisco Superior Court, accuses Akridge of taking millions of dollars worth of staking rewards from her Solana tokens.

Staking rewards are like interest earned from a bank deposit, where crypto holders lock their assets to validate blockchain transactions and earn more tokens. The dispute between Akridge and Rossi began after their divorce filing in February 2023, with Rossi claiming that Akridge controlled the accounts and received all the SOL token commissions.

Rossi alleges that Akridge, who was a principal engineer at Solana and is now the CEO of Cyber Grant, took advantage of his expertise in cryptocurrencies and blockchain. The suit does not disclose the value of the tokens in dispute, but Rossi asserts that a significant amount is involved. She is seeking damages for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraud.
