U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.97%

After the close on Monday, U.S. stocks experienced a decline, with losses in the tech, healthcare, and financial sectors leading the way.

By the end of NYSE trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.97%, the S&P 500 index declined 1.07%, and the Nasdaq Composite index lost 1.21%.

Notable performers included NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA), which rose 0.35% to close at 137.49, Unitedhealth Group (NYSE: UNH) which fell 0.38% to 508.04, and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: GS) which was down 0.46% to 573.55.

On the downside were Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE) down 2.28% to 74.68, Boeing Co (NYSE: BA) declining 2.26% to 176.64, and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG) down 1.45% to 167.08.

Top performers on the S&P 500 included Amentum Holdings LLC (NYSE: AMENT) up 8.79% to 22.28, EQT Corporation (NYSE: EQT) rising 5.12% to 46.59, and Coterra Energy Inc (NYSE: CTRA) gaining 3.55% to close at 25.52.

Meanwhile, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ: SMCI) was down 4.07% to 30.68, ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: ON) lost 3.86% to 63.46, and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ: WBA) was down 3.74% to 9.26.

Among the top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Energous Co (NASDAQ: WATT) rising 554.32% to 2.65, NXU Inc (NASDAQ: NXU) up 516.27% to 1.50, and MicroCloud Hologram Inc (NASDAQ: MCHI) gaining 167.08% to close at 6.41.

On the downside, Intchains Group Ltd ADR (NASDAQ: INCH) was down 60.34% to 3.70, ABPRO Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ABP) lost 52.56% to 2.13, and Snow Lake Resources Ltd (NASDAQ: SLR) was down 41.56% to 0.94.

Overall, falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the NYSE and NASDAQ, with volatility on the rise.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery were down 0.41% to $2,621.24 a troy ounce, while Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.81% to $71.17 a barrel.

EUR/USD remained unchanged at 1.04, while USD/JPY fell 0.64% to 156.80, and the US Dollar Index Futures were up 0.08% at 107.88.
