White House Demands Iran Give Up Entire Nuclear Program, Including Civilian Enrichment

Confirming the Trump Administration’s stance, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz emphasized the demand for the “full dismantlement” of Iran’s nuclear program, which includes civilian uranium enrichment capabilities. This declaration was made in connection to recent US actions in Yemen and their perceived ties to Iran.

During an appearance on CBS’ Face the Nation, Waltz elaborated on the scope of the demand, clarifying that it extends beyond the previous verification agreement with Iran, covering enrichment, weaponization, and strategic missile programs.

It is important to note that Iran’s uranium enrichment program is solely for civilian purposes, monitored by the IAEA. The enrichment is primarily for fuel rods for the Bushehr nuclear power plant and medical isotopes production.

Waltz’s new stipulation goes beyond reducing enrichment levels; it calls for the complete cessation of enrichment activities. Additionally, he demanded the elimination of Iran’s alleged “weaponization” program, which is not supported by intelligence reports.

Furthermore, Iran is urged to abandon its strategic missile program, despite the lack of evidence linking it to nuclear activities. Waltz mentioned ongoing discussions with Iran regarding these demands, with “all options on the table” if compliance is not met.

While the US pushes for extensive nuclear concessions from Iran, the narrative of a military component in Iran’s program persists, despite intelligence proving otherwise.

Iran’s response to the demands remains undisclosed, with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejecting direct talks with President Trump due to previous commitments being broken. Russia has defended Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear program, opposing the US demands.

Amidst global reactions, the severity of the Trump Administration’s demands sets them apart, with uncertainties over international support for restricting Iran’s nuclear activities.
