VP JD Vance: America’s Current Security Posture Is Insufficient To Meet 2030 Challenges

U.S. Vice President JD Vance delivered a speech at the Munich Security Conference in Washington, emphasizing the need for a modernized national defense strategy to address emerging global threats in the next two decades. He highlighted the importance of transatlantic cooperation and greater European burden-sharing in rethinking defense strategies.

Vance reaffirmed the strong alignment between the U.S. and Europe, emphasizing shared cultural and historical ties that go beyond mere interests. He acknowledged that disagreements are inevitable but stressed the need for collaboration in shaping defense policies for the future.

The vice president proposed a pivot in defense policy, moving away from the post-9/11 focus on counterterrorism towards addressing state-driven threats from China, Russia, Iran, and non-traditional domains. This shift includes a push for greater coordination of national and hemispheric defense across the Americas, with a focus on economic integration and a hardened defense perimeter.

President Trump’s vision for hemispheric control involves strengthening defense systems and cooperation across the Americas. This may include the development of a “Golden Dome” defense system to bolster hemispheric security. The potential emergence of a US-Canada “superstate” in the 2030s could provide enhanced security capabilities to address global threats effectively. The task is to rewrite some text.
