If you’re considering a cruise this year, timing can make a significant difference in your savings. Each cruise destination has its own off-season and peak season, leading to fluctuating fares throughout the year, according to pricing data from Cruise Critic, a site owned by Tripadvisor.

Cruise Critic analyzed average fares for five- to seven-night cruises in 2025 on mainstream cruise lines in the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Bermuda; the Mediterranean; the Mexican Riviera; and Alaska. Here are the cheapest and most expensive times to cruise to these destinations between May and December 2025.

The Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda

  • Cheapest month: September
    • Average inside room fare: $758
    • Average balcony fare: $1,117
  • Most expensive month: July
    • Average inside room fare: $1,186
    • Average balcony fare: $1,630

The Caribbean, the Bahamas, and Bermuda are popular cruise destinations known for their warm weather and stunning landscapes. Private islands owned by cruise operators offer added convenience and value to travelers.

For the lowest fares, consider sailing in September, saving over 30% compared to peak prices in July. However, be aware of the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season in mid-September and consider travel insurance and backup plans.

      The Mediterranean

November is an ideal time to cruise the Mediterranean to avoid peak travel crowds and hot temperatures. Summer months tend to be the most expensive, particularly in August, June, and July. November offers cooler weather and a more relaxed travel experience.

      The Mexican Riviera

  • Cheapest month: September
    • Average inside room fare: $414
    • Average balcony fare: $647
  • Most expensive month: December
    • Average inside room fare: $793
    • Average balcony fare: $1,133

December is a pricey time to cruise the Mexican Riviera, while September provides lower fares despite peak hurricane activity. Consider travel insurance for added protection during this time.

      Alaska

  • Cheapest month: October
    • Average inside room fare: $840
    • Average balcony fare: $1,235
  • Most expensive month: July
    • Average inside room fare: $1,071
    • Average balcony fare: $2,103

Alaska cruises offer breathtaking landscapes, with summer months being popular for nicer weather and longer daylight hours. July is the most expensive month, with significant savings available in October.

To save on cruise fares, consider booking during "wave season" from January to March and compare package deals and add-ons for additional value. Be strategic with your choices, skipping unnecessary expenses like unlimited drink packages or larger cabins if not needed.

By optimizing rewards and being flexible with your travel dates, you can make the most of your cruise experience while saving money.
