The Algorand Foundation, a blockchain ecosystem for developers, has teamed up with Paycode, a provider of biometric and offline digital payment systems, to enhance financial services access in underserved and remote areas.
Paycode operates in countries like Afghanistan, Ghana, Zambia, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where many individuals are excluded from the formal financial system. This collaboration will improve secure digital identity, promote transparency, and facilitate access to financial tools by integrating Algorand blockchain technology into Paycode’s system.
Paycode currently serves more than 6 million users across eight countries. Its platform has facilitated the distribution of over $250 million in aid and government payments through biometric identification, offline digital wallets, and real-time transactions.
The partnership will entail hosting certain components of Paycode’s system on Algorand, focusing on transparent aid distribution, stablecoin-based settlements, and offline financial services. This initiative aligns with the Algorand Foundation’s dedication to advancing digital public infrastructure and expanding financial inclusion in developing markets.
