OpenAI Rival Sentient Unveils Open-Source AGI Network, The GRID

Sentient, a New York-based artificial intelligence company, has recently rolled out The GRID, an open-source network tailored for constructing and monetizing artificial general intelligence (AGI) systems.

The platform aims to offer a decentralized option to closed AI marketplaces like those offered by firms such as OpenAI. Developers have the opportunity to integrate their AI agents, models, or tools and earn rewards in tokens. Additionally, they can choose to monetize their offerings through usage fees and subscriptions.

Upon its launch, The GRID boasts a collection of over 40 AI agents, 50 data sources, and more than 10 models, covering both Web2 and Web3. Notable tools available on the platform include Napkin, a generative graphics engine, and Exa, a search startup. Moreover, blockchain-connected agents are deployed across platforms like Base, Polygon, and Arbitrum.

Users can interact with these resources via Sentient Chat, an interface that enables the discovery and integration of agents into workflows capable of managing tasks such as calendar coordination, code generation, and data visualization.

“The GRID stands as the world’s largest repository of open-source intelligence, supported by economic mechanisms that facilitate its scalability,” remarked Himanshu Tyagi, co-founder of Sentient.

“This isn’t merely an enhanced AI app store; it is about establishing the foundational infrastructure to ensure the sustainability of open-source AI in the long run,” Tyagi further explained.

One of The GRID’s standout features is its focus on interoperability, allowing agents to exchange information and collaborate in real time. This feature addresses a common challenge in enterprise AI, where multiple “assistant” systems often operate independently.

Sentient reports that over two million individuals have joined the waitlist for access to the network, with numerous partners involved in the platform’s debut.

The company’s leadership views this initiative as a step towards democratizing AGI development, empowering communities to oversee and reap the benefits of the technology rather than having control concentrated in a handful of private laboratories.
