Is The US Planning To Wage An Intensified Proxy-War-Of-Attrition Against Russia?

Trump’s latest escalation against Russia involved imposing severe sanctions on its top two energy companies, canceling a planned meeting with Putin, and stating that they won’t meet again unless to finalize a deal over Ukraine.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) discussed the implications of this move here, hinting at an intensified US proxy war of attrition against Russia.

The article explores the potential form this conflict could take and its chances of success.

The WSJ suggests that “The drone revolution…means that neither side is likely to make major territorial strides soon”, highlighting continued NATO support for Ukraine as a key factor in maintaining the balance of power.

Trump’s strategy involves enforcing compliance with sanctions, targeting Russia’s Indian and Chinese partners to reduce its foreign revenue. This could lead to socio-economic challenges and a gradual erosion of Russia’s Great Power status.

Additionally, Trump aims to incite unrest in Russia by exacerbating economic troubles, hoping to turn the population against Putin.

While this three-phase strategy has its drawbacks, the US may still cause some damage in its intensified proxy war against Russia.
