The FBI has taken the lead in investigating potential connections in reports of dead or missing U.S. scientists in recent years, following concerns expressed by President Donald Trump.
“The FBI is spearheading the effort to look for connections into the missing and deceased scientists. We are working with the Department of Energy, Department of War, and with our state and local law enforcement partners to find answers,” stated an FBI spokesperson in an email to The Epoch Times on Tuesday.
Responding to a query about FBI involvement, the spokesperson mentioned that Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) had called for the bureau to investigate the deaths last month.
President Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to concerns about the missing or deceased scientists, emphasizing the importance of these incidents.
Trump stated that the reports should be taken seriously as some of the scientists were significant individuals. He expressed hope that these occurrences were random.
Leavitt, during a press briefing, mentioned that relevant agencies would be consulted to investigate the matter further if the reports were true. House lawmakers like Reps. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) and Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) have raised suspicions about possible connections in these cases.
“The numbers seem very high in these certain areas of research. I think we’d better be paying attention, and I don’t think we should trust our government,” stated Burchett in a previous interview.
Burlison expressed particular concern about the case of former Air Force general William McCasland, who disappeared along with rocket scientist Monica Reza. Burlison highlighted the need for further investigation into these disappearances.
“It’s just really, really strange that in about a five-month period of time, four or five people walked out their front door and never returned, and were all doing advanced aerospace research,” Burlison added.
NASA released a statement asserting that there is no indication of a national security threat in relation to the missing scientists but is cooperating with relevant agencies in the investigation.
“The agency is committed to transparency and will provide more information as able,” NASA mentioned in response to recent developments.
