A New Era of Financial Inclusion: Paga Partners with Sui Blockchain

Nigerian fintech trailblazer, Paga, has made a groundbreaking move by teaming up with the Sui blockchain to incorporate cryptocurrency infrastructure into its platform. This strategic partnership, announced on May 7 at Sui Live in Miami, signals Paga’s foray into the world of digital finance and blockchain technology.

With this collaboration, Paga aims to diversify its offerings beyond traditional mobile money and payments, venturing into stablecoin products, tokenized assets, and blockchain-powered cross-border transfers. The partnership aligns with Paga’s vision to provide financial solutions that empower Africans to navigate currency volatility, access global markets, and engage in innovative digital finance opportunities.

Founder Tayo Oviosu emphasized the importance of dismantling financial barriers in Africa during the announcement, stating, “These are the walls of the cage, and until we tear them down, financial freedom on this continent is incomplete. We found that partner – Paga and Sui.”

The integration will focus on introducing high-yield USD accounts supported by $USDsui, Sui’s newly launched stablecoin pegged to the US dollar. Additionally, the collaboration will facilitate seamless crypto on-ramps and off-ramps across Paga’s operational regions, enabling users to invest in a variety of tokenized real-world assets, including real estate, bonds, and renewable energy projects.

This strategic move by Paga follows the broader trend of African fintech companies exploring blockchain technology for settlement, treasury management, and global payment solutions. Notably, Paga’s monthly payment volume currently stands at $1.5 billion, reflecting the company’s significant impact on the digital finance landscape.

Oviosu highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership, stating, “Our $42 billion historical scale in processing payments positions us to drive innovation and financial inclusion through the integration of Sui’s cutting-edge blockchain infrastructure.”

On May 4, Sui introduced $USDsui, a yield-bearing stablecoin backed by the US dollar, further expanding its digital currency ecosystem. This initiative underscores Sui’s commitment to fostering financial innovation and providing users with new avenues to earn interest on their digital assets.

As Paga embarks on this new chapter of digital finance innovation, the partnership with Sui represents a pivotal moment in the company’s evolution towards offering a more diverse and inclusive financial ecosystem for its users.
