A leading billion-dollar bank is currently conducting a live trial of its exclusive dollar-backed stablecoin on a public blockchain to facilitate cross-border fund transfers.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. Bank recently announced that the transaction was successfully carried out on the Stellar network between its North American and European branches.

This pilot program serves as a validation of the bank’s Digital Asset Platform, which enables functions such as minting, redemption, freezing, and clawback, all while integrating with existing finance, risk, and compliance systems.

Gunjan Kedia, the chairman and CEO of U.S. Bank, expressed enthusiasm about the impact of the pilot program, stating, “This live pilot demonstrates our ability to enhance global cash management and money transfer capabilities, creating value for our clients and leveraging the potential of cutting-edge technology within the banking industry.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Walker, the head of Digital Assets and Money Movement at U.S. Bank, emphasized the strategic importance of the pilot program, saying, “This pilot marks another milestone in our broader digital asset strategy, focusing on delivering solutions that address real client needs while upholding the safety, security, and reliability synonymous with U.S. Bank.”

Potential future applications of the stablecoin currently under consideration include liquidity management, collateral mobility, and cross-border treasury operations.

As the sixth-largest bank in the U.S. with total assets amounting to 638.38 billion as of the second quarter, according to the Federal Reserve, U.S. Bank continues to innovate in the realm of digital assets and financial technology.
