This data visualization, created by Marcus Lu of Visual Capitalist, showcases the top 10 rapidly expanding housing markets in the United States. The growth of these markets is measured by the increase in their housing stock from 2013 to 2022.

Housing stock refers to the total number of residential properties, including houses and apartments, within a specific area.

All data presented in this visualization is sourced from an analysis conducted by StorageCafe using U.S. Census data.

Data and Highlights

The table below provides a summary of the information featured in this graphic.

Vineyard, Utah claims the top position with an astounding 7,000% growth in both housing stock and population. This growth is largely attributed to the city’s proximity to Utah’s “Silicon Slopes” area, a burgeoning tech hub.

Notable tech companies in the region include Adobe, which established a cutting-edge 280,000 square foot campus in 2013. Companies like Microsoft, Oracle, Google, and Facebook (Meta) also have a presence in Utah.

On the other hand, Horizon West, Florida boasts the largest population among the featured markets. This area is classified as a “master-planned community,” designed to include homes, recreational facilities, schools, and more from the start. The aim is to create a self-sufficient community where residents have all amenities within reach.

With a population of 58,595 in 2022, Horizon West has experienced a 285% growth compared to its population of 15,219 a decade ago.
