Base, a well-known Ethereum L2 chain that provides a cost-effective, secure, and developer-friendly environment for on-chain development, has made an exciting announcement. The company has successfully implemented the Multi-Chain Prep update, bringing them closer to establishing a Superchain with interoperability. This important milestone was shared on Base’s official social media account on X.

Today, we implemented the Multi-Chain Prep upgrade that takes us one step closer to an interoperable Superchain

Base Introduces the Exclusive Multi-Chain Prep Update

In a recent post on X, Base revealed the outcome of this initiative and highlighted the chains that have also completed the upgrade. These chains will now operate on the same codebase, allowing for seamless upgrades and enhanced security. Base also shared the proposal for this upgrade.

Optimism Foundation, an Ethereum-based L2 blockchain solution, proposed this upgrade to improve the upgradability and security of the Superchain. The upgrade enables L1 contracts to be upgraded across multiple chains with a single transaction, streamlining the deployment and upgrade processes. This helps mitigate risks during emergency upgrades and includes contract addresses in the network’s SystemConfig.

Atomic Upgrades Across Chains

Developers can now easily access system contract addresses, providing a better user experience. The proposal also addresses critical security issues, outlining a collaboration with the community to communicate any necessary upgrade cancellations. The upgrade offers atomic upgrades across chains, reducing potential exploitation risks.
