The Kingdom of Bhutan is taking a significant step towards digital development by planning to deploy and operate a validator node on the Sei blockchain. This initiative is a result of a collaboration between the Sei Development Foundation, a nonprofit supporting the Sei ecosystem, and Druk Holding and Investments Ltd, Bhutan’s sovereign wealth fund managing strategic state assets. Spearheaded by the DHI InnoTech division, which focuses on emerging technologies and innovation, the project aims to enhance Bhutan’s blockchain infrastructure capacity and provide valuable experience with decentralized systems.
The launch of the Sei validator is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026. Through active participation in network validation, Bhutan will not only strengthen its domestic blockchain capabilities but also explore new avenues in data valuation, scientific research infrastructure, and financial technology applications. This collaboration presents exciting opportunities for the country to stay at the forefront of technological advancements.
The Sei Development Foundation plays a crucial role in fostering the growth and adoption of the Sei network, a high-throughput EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain. On the other hand, Druk Holding and Investments Ltd manages long-term investments on behalf of Bhutan, ensuring sustainable economic development and growth.
Sapien Capital, an investment vehicle dedicated to funding science-driven innovation and infrastructure development within the Sei ecosystem, is also a key supporter of this initiative. Their contribution further solidifies Bhutan’s position in the global blockchain landscape.
