(Reuters) – Unifor has reached a tentative agreement with General Motors early Wednesday regarding wages and job security for workers at its Ingersoll, Ontario plant, the Canadian labor union announced.
The details of the agreement will be disclosed to union members at a ratification meeting scheduled for September 22.
This agreement comes after the union and the automaker extended their negotiation deadline, which was initially set to expire on Tuesday.
Unifor Local 88 had previously indicated that 97% of its over 1,300 members were in favor of a work stoppage at the Ontario CAMI plant, which produces electric vehicles and batteries, if an agreement was not reached.
Contract negotiations between Unifor and GM commenced last week.
