Chainlink has introduced a groundbreaking upgrade that enables popular stocks and ETFs to be accessed on-chain 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. This enhancement opens up a plethora of on-chain possibilities, including trading, lending, and more.
This development integrates the $80 trillion U.S. stock market onto the blockchain, granting DeFi platforms secure access to U.S. equity market data, even during after-hours and overnight sessions.
The introduction of the 24/5 U.S. Equities Streams expands Chainlink Data Streams, providing rapid and secure market data for U.S. equities and ETFs across all trading sessions.
On-Chain Representation of Equity RWAs
Despite the growth of real-world assets (RWAs), U.S. equities have been underrepresented on-chain.
While blockchains operate continuously, U.S. equity markets adhere to fixed daily sessions, typically from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET on weekdays.
Most on-chain data solutions only offer a single price point for equities during regular trading hours, leaving on-chain markets without reliable equity pricing outside of those timeframes.
This limitation hinders on-chain markets from accurately reflecting market conditions around the clock.
Continuous Equity Data On-Chain with Chainlink
Chainlink has introduced its U.S. Equities Streams to address this discrepancy.
This service converts fragmented U.S. equity market data into continuous, cryptographically signed data streams, providing uninterrupted 24/5 coverage and reliable sub-second pricing at all times, including regular, pre-market, post-market, and overnight sessions.
By eliminating blind spots during off-hours trading and minimizing the risk of using outdated reference prices, Chainlink’s streams enhance the accuracy and reliability of on-chain market data.
The detailed market data offered by the streams facilitates advanced logic, robust risk controls, and secure trade execution, supporting safer liquidations and consistent user experiences beyond regular market hours.
Adoption of Chainlink Streams by Exchanges
Several industry players have already integrated the new system, with early adopters including Lighter, BitMEX, ApeX, HelloTrade, Decibel, Monaco, Opinion Labs, and Orderly Network.
Lighter, the second-largest perpetuals DEX by volume, has strengthened its partnership with Chainlink by incorporating the streams as its official oracle for RWA markets.
Furthermore, Chainlink’s 24/5 U.S. equities streams are a key component of BitMEX’s advanced 24/7 equity derivatives platform.
Operating on the reliable Chainlink Data Standard, the 24/5 streams have supported over $27 trillion in transaction value, verified more than 19 billion on-chain messages, and safeguarded approximately 70% of oracle-related DeFi activities.
According to CoinGecko data, LINK is currently trading at $12.59, with the native token of the Chainlink network experiencing a 2.8% increase in the last 24 hours.
