Chase has revealed its bonus categories for the first quarter of 2026, just in time for the new year.
From Jan. 1 to March 31, 2026, holders of the Chase Freedom Flex® and the original Chase Freedom® can enjoy 5% cash back on dining, Norwegian Cruise Line, and the American Heart Association.
Cardholders can earn the enhanced rate on up to $1,500 in combined purchases across all three categories. Any other non-bonus-category spending will earn 1% back.
To take advantage of these categories, eligible Chase Freedom cardholders must activate them by March 14, 2026. Rewards can be earned retroactively if activated by the deadline.
A Closer Look at This Quarter’s Bonus Categories
Dining
In the first quarter of 2026, Chase Freedom Flex® cardholders can earn up to 7% cash back on dining purchases. This includes the 3% regular cash back for dining, plus an additional 4% from the bonus category.
Eligible purchases include dining in, takeout, or delivery from eligible restaurants. Note that bakeries, caterers, meal kit delivery services, and gift cards are not included.
Norwegian Cruise Line
Returning from the first quarter of 2025, this niche travel category offers bonus rewards for direct purchases with Norwegian Cruise Line. Third-party vendors or travel agencies are not eligible.
American Heart Association
In a charitable twist, Chase introduces a new bonus category for donations to the American Heart Association until March 31, 2026, made through the organization’s official channels. Local AHA chapters may not qualify for the higher rate.
While Chase has previously offered rewards for “select charities,” this is the first time this specific charity has been featured on the bonus calendar.
