Reports indicate that Ukraine’s long-range drone campaign has once again targeted Russia’s energy infrastructure, sparking a fire at a crucial Transneft oil pumping station in Tatarstan early Monday.

Local authorities confirmed the incident after initial reports of explosions near the facility, stating that “a local fire broke out in an industrial zone as a result of falling drone debris.”

Fortunately, there were no casualties from the explosions that occurred around 4 am at the Kaleykino pumping station. Witnesses reported hearing seven explosions before the fire broke out.

According to Ukrainian media reports, the main oil pumping station ‘Kaleykino’ near Almetyevsk in Tatarstan was targeted by long-range SBU drones, causing an explosion. This station plays a crucial role in supplying raw materials to the Druzhba oil pipeline.

The Moscow Times highlighted that Kaleykino acts as a critical terminal for aggregating crude oil from various Russian regions, facilitating the transport of almost 30% of the country’s crude oil towards major export routes like the Druzhba pipeline.

Recent disruptions in oil shipments to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline have intensified tensions between Ukraine, Russia, and the affected countries. Accusations have been made against both Moscow and Kiev regarding the pipeline’s maintenance and operation.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has openly declared its intention to target Russian energy infrastructure as part of its strategic operations. A Ukrainian SBU official emphasized the aim to diminish Russian oil extraction and transportation, thereby impacting the Russian economy.

The geopolitical implications of these events have led to Hungary and Slovakia’s resistance to EU policies, aligning them closer to Moscow’s interests.
