The Hashgraph Group (THG) recently introduced a revolutionary self-sovereign identity (SSI) platform named “IDTrust,” which offers a cutting-edge blockchain-based digital identity solution for both individuals and institutions.
According to an exclusive announcement made to Cointelegraph, THG disclosed that the IDTrust platform is constructed on the Hedera network and will be driven by artificial intelligence. SSI platforms enable users to securely issue, manage, and verify credentials without relying on centralized authorities.
The launch of IDTrust coincides with the increasing momentum of digital identity initiatives by governments and enterprises worldwide, such as Switzerland’s e-ID project and the European Union’s eIDAS 2.0 regulation.
Moreover, Southeast Asia has also seen the rollout of blockchain-based identity projects. For instance, Vietnam recently unveiled a national blockchain platform designed to support a decentralized identity solution.
Unique Features of IDTrust
Stefan Deiss, the co-founder and CEO of THG, highlighted that the IDTrust platform leverages the Hedera Consensus Service (HCS) stateless proof mechanism, providing a significant advantage over other blockchain solutions. Deiss emphasized that IDTrust’s identity is independent of the Hedera network, offering users the flexibility to manage their personal data without the need for the HBAR token or the same key scheme as the Hedera network.
Deiss further explained that IDTrust distinguishes itself in the competitive SSI market by offering a comprehensive decentralized digital identity management solution that includes authentication and authorization capabilities, setting it apart from competitors like Polygon ID and Worldcoin.
Additionally, the launch of IDTrust aligns with Switzerland’s efforts to establish a national digital identity system. The Swiss Federal Council recently initiated a consultation process on an ordinance to regulate the implementation of electronic identification (e-ID) nationwide.
Deiss noted that the Swiss e-ID system will be built on W3C standards and SSI principles, ensuring compatibility with the IDTrust platform. As a Switzerland-based company, THG collaborates with the government and actively participates in discussions regarding the e-ID initiative and related regulations.
