I had never been interested in cruises, but when the opportunity arose to sail to Alaska on Holland America’s Eurodam, I couldn’t say no. I have always loved Alaska, and it had been years since I had been on a cruise.
Holland America’s Eurodam is not your typical party cruise with water slides. Instead, it offers a sophisticated atmosphere with relaxed vibes, making it a great choice for family gatherings, friend groups, and multigenerational trips. While the cruise line does have a reputation for catering to an older demographic, I found a diverse range of ages onboard.
Alaska cruises with Holland America run from late April to early October, with prices ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 per person for a seven-day base package. I embarked on my journey in August 2025 from Seattle to Alaska on the Eurodam, a mid-sized Signature Class ship. The ship was comfortable, with delicious food, attentive service, and plenty of Alaska-themed activities. Holland America Line covered the cost of my trip, but my review remains unbiased.
The embarkation process in Seattle was smooth, with biometric scans required before boarding. Once onboard, the Eurodam exuded a sense of luxury with its wood paneling, brass details, and Greco-Roman art elements. I stayed in a verandah stateroom with a private balcony, perfect for enjoying the breathtaking views of Margerie Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park.
The room was cozy, with ample storage space, a small bathroom, and a sitting area. The bed was comfortable, with reading lights and USB ports on each side. The decor was a bit dated, but overall, the room was comfortable and well-equipped.
Overall, my experience sailing on the Eurodam to Alaska was delightful, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a more refined cruise experience. I had seen online that you could request your cabin steward to remove the items if you didn’t plan on using them, but I decided not to bother. The lounge area on the ship is a prime location for whale watching and offers a selection of board games for passengers to enjoy. Additionally, there are several bars onboard, perfect for relaxing by the pool or socializing on the passenger decks. Specialty coffees and alcoholic beverages are available for an additional cost. The onboard entertainment includes musical productions, comedy sets, and magic shows, catering to a variety of tastes. Holland America’s programming for Alaska cruises includes educational talks and live music performances, providing a well-rounded experience for guests. One of the highlights of the cruise is the scenic cruising in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, where passengers can witness breathtaking glaciers and enjoy traditional Dutch pea soup on the viewing deck. The ship also features two pool areas, one outdoors for adults and another covered area with activities for children. Both pool areas featured hot tubs for guests to enjoy.
If you’re looking to stay active, Eurodam’s fitness center has a variety of equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, weight machines, and free weights. There are also free and paid classes available for guests to participate in.
For those seeking relaxation, the onboard Greenhouse Spa & Salon offers spa treatments and access to the thermal suite, which includes loungers, saunas, and a warm pool. Both the spa and fitness center are conveniently located next to the indoor pool area.
Additionally, at the top of the ship, there is an outdoor basketball court that can also be used as a pickleball court.
One unexpected amenity on board is the library where guests can borrow books to enjoy during their cruise. The cozy space offers ocean views and comfortable armchairs for book lovers to relax and unwind.
Overall, Holland America Line offers a variety of amenities and activities to cater to different preferences and interests during your cruise vacation. content in your own words.
