How MAHA Can Really Save American Lives

Authored by Ryan Sheridan via RealClearPolitics,

More than three decades ago, Harold Corbett, an executive at Monsanto, gave a speech titled “Chemical Risk: Living Up to Public Expectations.” His 1988 speech highlighted the dual nature of the chemical industry, showcasing both its positive impacts and negative consequences.

Corbett’s speech distinguished between the positive outcomes such as safe drinking water, improved crop yields, and medicines, and the negative impacts such as contamination and health crises. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the industry’s progress while acknowledging the challenges that still lie ahead.

Today, his words continue to resonate. Harold Corbett was my grandfather.

Pharmaceutical companies, food manufacturers, hospital systems, and chemical conglomerates are facing growing scrutiny from a coalition of concerned Americans known as the MAHA voters. This coalition is focused on addressing the crisis of institutional credibility and the prioritization of profit over health.

As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I witness these issues firsthand. With the support of the MAHA Coalition, Republicans have an opportunity to reform the healthcare system and save lives.

Over two-thirds of Missouri adults are overweight, while opioid overdoses claimed nearly 850 lives in the state last year. The impact of COVID mandates on mental health and child development cannot be overlooked.

Building trust is essential in addressing these challenges. The MAHA movement, spearheaded by the Trump administration and RFK, aims to restore public trust through policy reforms and initiatives.

Republicans must align with these efforts and take decisive action in Congress.

Transparency in food labeling, prioritizing preventative care, and promoting overall wellness are key components of the proposed reforms. By acknowledging past failures and prioritizing public trust, we can create a more effective and trustworthy healthcare system.

The MAHA movement offers a path to a Republican Party that prioritizes the well-being of voters over corporate interests.

As my grandfather once said, “When in doubt, tell the truth.” It is time for us to act on that truth and work towards a healthier and more trustworthy future.

Ryan Sheridan is a psychiatric nurse practitioner, small business owner, and Republican candidate for Missouri’s Second Congressional District.
