How to Save on Tickets to Live Events in 2025

Attending live events can be a costly affair, especially when you factor in hidden fees, inflated resale prices, and dynamic pricing. These additional costs can significantly increase the total amount you pay for a night out.

Regulators have attempted to address these issues by implementing rules to ensure transparency in pricing. For example, a recent Federal Trade Commission rule prohibits bait-and-switch pricing and requires businesses to disclose all mandatory fees upfront.

However, despite these efforts, loopholes still exist. For instance, Live Nation and Ticketmaster were recently sued by the FTC for allegedly allowing brokers to use proxy bot accounts to purchase tickets at lower prices and resell them at a markup.

Given that Live Nation Entertainment controls a significant portion of the event ticket sales market, consumers need to be aware of the potential for overpricing and hidden fees.

To avoid overpaying for tickets, consumers can take proactive steps such as purchasing during presales, buying directly from venues, and tracking prices on legitimate resale platforms.

  • Tacked-on fees and resale ticket markups contribute to the total cost of attending an event. By being aware of these additional expenses, consumers can make more informed decisions when purchasing tickets.

  • Dynamic pricing is another factor that affects ticket prices, with algorithms adjusting prices based on demand. Consumers can save money by purchasing tickets during off-peak periods.

By following strategies like buying during presales, purchasing directly from venues, and staying informed about ticket prices, consumers can make more cost-effective choices when attending live events.
