HUD and DHS Partner to Prevent Misuse of Taxpayer-Funded Housing Programs
The recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) aims to enhance collaboration in preventing the misuse of taxpayer-funded housing programs by illegal immigrants. As part of the agreement, a HUD staffer will join DHS’ Incident Command Center to facilitate data sharing and ensure that housing assistance is directed towards deserving American citizens.
During the announcement of the MOU in a video, Turner, a representative, emphasized the importance of using taxpayer dollars to assist American citizens amidst a housing affordability crisis. The partnership between HUD and DHS will leverage resources, including technology and personnel, to prioritize American citizens in public housing programs.
Noem, another official involved in the partnership, highlighted the commitment to ensuring that housing assistance reaches individuals in the country who truly need it for a better life for their families. In line with this, HUD’s Office of Public and Indian Housing has directed Moving to Work Public Housing Authorities to comply with regulations prohibiting financial assistance to illegal immigrants under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1980.
