A Timeline of Events in Longbridge vs. Mutual of Omaha Lawsuit

A mandatory settlement conference via video is scheduled for Jan. 20, 2026, with parties authorized to provide full settlement authority if an agreement is reached.

Subject matter experts and rebuttal experts must be finalized on two separate dates in February 2026, with expert discovery to be completed by May 4. Pretrial motions are to be filed by June 4, with disclosure requirements due in September. A final pretrial conference is set for Oct. 9, 2026, followed by the trial on Nov. 9.

The magistrate judge has stated that the dates outlined will only be modified with “good cause shown.”

The lawsuit, initiated by Longbridge against Mutual of Omaha in 2024, alleges deceptive advertising practices related to reverse mortgage products. Mutual of Omaha countersued, claiming improper advertising practices by Longbridge.

Judge Dana M. Sabraw ruled in favor of some of Longbridge’s claims for a preliminary injunction, citing clear legal and factual support.

Efforts to settle the dispute were made after the initial filings, including an “early neutral evaluation conference,” but no agreement was reached.

While Mutual of Omaha expressed interest in early mediation, the trial has been steadily progressing since the initial ruling.

Longbridge expressed satisfaction with the limited injunctive relief granted, while Mutual of Omaha did not comment on the matter.
