Liberal Council In UK Moves To Ban “Intimidating” National Flags

Authored by Steve Watson via Modernity.news,

In a controversial move against British identity, a council led by the Liberal Democrats has officially deemed the act of displaying the England flag as “intimidating and divisive,” issuing a legal notice threatening residents with prosecution.

Oxfordshire County Council has initiated a county-wide crackdown on the grassroots Raise the Colours campaign, which has been placing Union Flags and St George’s Crosses in public areas as a display of patriotism. The council’s stance is clear: national symbols are now viewed with suspicion.

The council has formally instructed the Raise the Colours group to cease displaying flags, cautioning that failure to comply could result in legal action. Council leader Liz Leffman has stated, “The widespread placement of flags by Raise the Colours is not an expression of patriotism. It is seen as an act of intimidation and division that is negatively impacting our communities.”

Leffman further commented that individuals removing the flags have faced abuse and threats when confronting those responsible for putting them up, deeming such behavior unacceptable.

She emphasized, “The council must intervene when actions undermine community unity and the safe utilization of public spaces. This is why we are taking decisive action. We will not hesitate to take further legal measures if needed to safeguard residents and promote community harmony.”

This development follows a leaked UK Government strategy that categorized the display of English, Scottish, and Union Jack flags as potential “instruments of hate.”

The leaked document suggested that these national symbols could be utilized “to ostracize or intimidate” and highlighted that “the far-right has attempted to transform symbols of pride into tools of hate.”

Moreover, councils across the country have admitted to spending substantial amounts of taxpayers’ money on contractors to remove Union flags and St George’s crosses from lampposts.

Requests made under the Freedom of Information Act have revealed even higher costs associated with this removal process. For instance, Medway Council spent nearly £11,600 in dismantling over 700 flags. Despite these efforts, ordinary citizens continue to display flags in defiance, prompting threats of legal action from the authorities.

The Raise the Colours campaign emerged in response to public discontent over issues such as mass immigration, grooming scandals, and the provision of taxpayer-funded accommodations for illegal immigrants. Rather than addressing these core concerns, officials are criminalizing visible symbols of the host culture. The act of flying a flag representing the nation that these officials are tasked to serve is now being labeled as divisive.

Leffman and her Liberal Democrat colleagues are not safeguarding “inclusivity”; they are erasing it. British communities have the right to commemorate their heritage without being branded as extremists. The same councils that accommodate every foreign flag and cultural demand suddenly find displays of the St George’s Cross intimidating.

This represents the culmination of years of institutional animosity towards British identity. Initially sidelining the Union Flag, then deriding the St George’s Cross as “far-right,” and now issuing legal notices to curb its display, the message to patriots is crystal clear: conform or face repercussions.

Britain does not need more lectures on “cohesion” from individuals who view its flag as a symbol of hate. What it requires are leaders who defend citizens’ right to take pride in their country unapologetically. Until this mindset changes, groups like Raise the Colours will persist in displaying the flag – and more residents will recognize who is trying to suppress them.
