Norwegian Aqua Review: ‘Slidecoaster’ Steals the Show

The newest addition to Norwegian Cruise Line, the Norwegian Aqua, set sail in April 2025 with much fanfare. This ship features a thrilling rollercoaster-style waterslide called the Aqua Slidecoaster, embodying the essence of high-energy, family-focused entertainment with a touch of innovation.

I had the opportunity to attend the christening celebration of the Aqua on April 13, 2025, in Miami, followed by a three-night preview sailing to NCL’s private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay. Despite this being a special media event, I got a comprehensive experience of what the ship has to offer. The Aqua is larger than its sister ships, the Norwegian Prima and Viva, accommodating over 3,500 guests. While it may not be the largest ship at sea, the Aqua’s superior entertainment, rides, and dining options make it a worthwhile investment, even if it comes at a slightly higher cost.

The Aqua’s vibrant hull adorned with colorful artwork by Oakland-based artist Allison Hueman sets the tone for the ship’s energetic and modern aesthetic. The exterior features attractions like the Aqua Slidecoaster, The Drop dry slide, and infinity hot tubs, providing guests with a variety of thrilling experiences. The ship also boasts unique amenities like Ocean Boulevard, a glass bridge offering stunning sea views, and a multistory atrium with bars and live entertainment.

Inside, the Aqua offers a diverse range of dining options, including the new Sukhothai Thai restaurant and the healthy Plant-based Planterie eatery. Guests can enjoy a variety of theater shows, including a Prince tribute and acrobatics show, along with activities like the Glow Court, which transforms from a sports court during the day to a dance floor at night. The ship’s expansive glass windows offer excellent views throughout, enhancing the overall experience.

Accommodation options on the Aqua cater to various preferences, from affordable interior rooms to opulent suites. The cabin designs are chic and modern, with thoughtful amenities like USB ports and ample storage space. Balcony rooms offer private outdoor areas, while suites provide luxurious living spaces and personalized services. The Haven, an exclusive section of the ship, offers enhanced amenities and services for guests seeking a more upscale experience.

In terms of dining, Aqua stands out with its 17 restaurants and 18 bars, catering to food enthusiasts. The Indulge Food Hall offers a unique dining experience with a variety of international cuisines, while specialty restaurants like Sukhothai and Palomar provide elevated dining options for an additional fee. The main dining room, Hudson’s, offers high-quality meals included in the cruise fare, making it a compelling choice for guests.

Entertainment on the Aqua is top-notch, with shows like “Revolution: A Celebration of Prince” and “Elements: The World Expanded” captivating audiences with dynamic performances. Family-friendly attractions like the Aqua Slidecoaster, Horizon Park games, and rooftop pool ensure that guests of all ages have a memorable experience onboard.

Overall, the Norwegian Aqua offers a perfect blend of family-friendly fun and upscale amenities, making it a worthwhile choice for travelers looking for a modern and engaging cruise experience. From its stylish design and diverse dining options to its thrilling attractions and top-notch entertainment, the Aqua delivers a memorable and enjoyable cruise experience for guests of all ages.
