President Biden has a duty to the American people to faithfully execute his office. As a public trustee, Biden took an oath to do what is right. He is entrusted with powers by the Constitution in exchange for his commitment to be dutiful.
Like every agent and trustee, Biden owes fiduciary duties to those he serves. He must always act with due care and give them his absolute loyalty, prioritizing their interests over his own.
A president’s failure to use due care or be loyal is grounds for impeachment. Impeachment for “high crimes and misdemeanors” is not a criminal proceeding but a civil one to remove someone who has failed in their trusteeship.
John Locke argued that the people should judge if a leader acts contrary to their trust, especially in cases where millions’ welfare is at stake and the consequences of inaction are severe.
In light of recent events, President Biden’s ability to act with due care as a steward of the American people’s best interests has come into question. His physical and cognitive abilities were lacking, raising concerns about his fitness for office.
If Biden does not resign, he risks committing an impeachable offense by causing harm to the American people. He must either resign or face impeachment for his failure to faithfully execute the duties of his office.
Stephen B. Young, global director of the Caux Round Table for Moral Capitalism, emphasizes the importance of loyalty and due care in serving as president. If Biden cannot fulfill these duties, he must step down or be removed from office.
