The Urgent Need to Rebuild American Manufacturing

Authored by Chris Power via RealClearPolitics

A Call to Action for Reindustrializing America

America is at a critical juncture in its industrial history. The spotlight is currently on the crisis in American manufacturing, particularly in the steel sector, but the reality is that our nation has sacrificed its manufacturing prowess for short-term financial gains across all industries. This shortsighted approach mirrors the downfall of great civilizations throughout history.

As a founder, CEO, and advocate for American industrial renewal, I can attest to the urgency of the situation. We are in a race against time to rebuild our industrial base within the next three years before we fall irreversibly behind our global competitors, particularly China.

The incoming administration, led by the vice president, has shown a commitment to reindustrializing the country and revitalizing the job market. This endeavor is not solely an economic challenge but a moral imperative to secure our nation’s future and be responsible stewards of our resources, including the American workforce.

American innovation and determination have the power to overcome these obstacles. In my own company, we have developed systems that can transform individuals with no prior factory experience into highly productive team members within weeks. We prioritize fair pay, equity opportunities, and meaningful work that contributes to national security.

Furthermore, the Trump administration’s dedication to American manufacturing and the workforce can kickstart the reindustrialization process from Day One. To regain our competitive edge, we must focus on four key areas:

  1. Reforming the Permitting Process: Streamlining the approval process for strategic manufacturing facilities to expedite production.
  2. Leveling the Playing Field: Addressing China’s predatory practices by tackling artificial cost disparities in raw materials, energy, and shipping subsidies.
  3. American Supply Chains: Ensuring that manufacturers receiving government subsidies prioritize American suppliers to strengthen domestic production.
  4. Strategic Investments: Making bold commitments to American manufacturing, particularly in critical sectors like shipbuilding, to signal our resolve to global competitors.

It is crucial for the government, industry, technology sector, and the American people to collaborate in this reindustrialization effort. By working together, we can reclaim our position as a global industrial powerhouse and secure a prosperous future for generations to come.
