As of November 3, 2025, the Shop Your Way Mastercard will undergo a rebranding, and current cardholders will receive a new Citi-issued Mastercard with an updated rewards program. Citi will provide more details about the new card and rewards program closer to the launch date. Until then, cardholders can continue using their existing cards to accumulate points as usual.

The Shop Your Way Mastercard has established itself as a popular retail credit card known for its attractive limited-time spending bonuses, which often offer cash back rewards of up to 15% for existing customers. These bonuses can amount to significant savings, depending on the promotion. While one-time welcome bonuses are common among credit cards, they are typically reserved for new cardholders and are not recurring like those offered by the Shop Your Way Mastercard.

In addition to these appealing offers, the card also provides competitive ongoing rewards in popular spending categories, albeit with lower point values. Cardholders can earn 5% back in points on gas station purchases, 3% back in points on eligible restaurant and grocery store purchases (up to the first $10,000 spent in these categories per calendar year), and 1% thereafter. Furthermore, through the Shop Your Way shopping portal, cardholders can earn 2% back in points on eligible purchases from Shop Your Way merchants and 1% back on other qualifying purchases.

Popular Shop Your Way merchants include Sears, Kmart, Home Depot, Macy’s, Walmart, Walgreens, and many other well-known brands.

A bit of history

In 2017, Citi and Sears introduced the Shop Your Way Mastercard. Despite Sears’ bankruptcy in October 2018, a limited number of Sears stores remained operational, and the card continued to accept new applications.

There was also a separate Sears Mastercard, which was converted to the Citi ThankYou® Mastercard® in April 2025. The Citi ThankYou® Mastercard® allows cardholders to earn ThankYou points that can be redeemed for travel, cash back, gift cards, and purchases with participating merchants.

Information about the Sears Mastercard, the Citi ThankYou® Mastercard® and the Shop Your Way Mastercard has been gathered by BW and has not been reviewed or endorsed by the card issuer.
