Stock market holidays refer to non-weekend business days when the two major U.S. stock exchanges, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq, are closed. These holidays typically align with federal holiday schedules and include major occasions such as Independence Day and Thanksgiving.
The regular operating hours for both exchanges are from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET. The markets do not operate on weekends.
In some cases, if a holiday falls on a weekend, the stock markets will close on the Friday before the holiday, as seen with Good Friday and Easter. Other times, the holiday may be observed on the Monday following the actual date.
As the summer vacation season arrives, it is essential to stay informed about the stock and bond market holiday calendar.
