Mike Fairclough’s new book 2030 is an intriguing dystopian novel tailored for teenagers.
Before delving into the story, I want to address you directly.
Back when I was your age, the books we studied in school were provocatively dangerous. We immersed ourselves in George Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984, as well as William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. These stories of mythological heroes challenged us in extraordinary ways.
There were no ‘trigger warnings’ on these books. They were meant to unsettle, provoke, and awaken your senses.
I grew up in a time where traditional gender roles were upheld, and pride in our British heritage was instilled in us. We were taught to honor our history, culture, and flag as symbols of unity and freedom.
However, today’s youth are bombarded with messages that tarnish their history and culture with guilt. Courage is painted as cruelty, and sacrifice as oppression. The values that shaped us have been stripped away.
Many parents have urged me to write something that speaks the truth to our children. That is why I penned 2030.
This book is not merely fiction; it is a prophetic warning. If we remain silent and complacent, 2030 will not be a tale but a harsh reality. The responsibility of resistance will fall on the younger generation – on you.
So read attentively, reclaim what has been erased, and be prepared to take a stand when the time comes.
A Note on Style
As a former headmaster, my educational philosophy emphasized character development by pushing students out of their comfort zones. This book, 2030, is crafted with the same ethos.
Prepare to immerse yourself in a dystopian world intentionally designed to feel ominous. The initial chapters may seem heavy and relentless, demanding your focus and resilience. But as the story progresses, your perseverance will be rewarded.
You are not a mere observer but an active participant in this narrative. Your role as the reader is pivotal.
So brace yourself, stay engaged, and let’s venture into 2030 together. Only when you realize the dystopia looming ahead can you begin to break free from its grip.
And when that moment arrives, you will discover your true power.
Chapter 1: The Digital Prison
George awoke to a manufactured silence, devoid of life’s natural sounds. His room mirrored the sterile environment of a world controlled by the Council.
Despite conforming to the Council’s regulations outwardly, George harbored fragments of memories that defied erasure. Deep within him lingered a whisper of a world lost to time.
