It is widely believed in the United States that having a job or career that brings enjoyment is crucial for leading a fulfilling life. According to a survey by Pew Research Center, 71 percent of respondents consider having a job or career that they like to be extremely or very important in feeling satisfied with their lives.
The next most popular element for a fulfilling life, as reported by Statista’s Anna Fleck, is having close friends, with 61 percent of respondents choosing this option. On the other hand, having children, a lot of money, or getting married were perceived as less crucial.
When it comes to gender differences, women are slightly more likely than men to prioritize their job or career in achieving a sense of fulfillment, with 74 percent of women compared to 69 percent of men emphasizing its importance. Conversely, men tend to place more importance on having children (29 percent versus 22 percent for women) or getting married (28 percent versus 18 percent for women) as key factors for success.
