Donald Trump has announced plans to impose tariffs of 25 per cent on all imports from Canada and Mexico, along with an additional 10 per cent tariff on Chinese goods, as a response to illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

In a recent post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump declared his intention to implement these tariffs on his first day in office, citing the need to address issues related to border security.

The tariffs on Canada and Mexico are expected to remain in effect until the issues of drug trafficking and illegal immigration are resolved, according to Trump.

Similarly, the tariffs on Chinese goods will apply to all products and will be imposed in addition to existing levies on imports from China.

Trump criticized Beijing for its failure to fulfill promises regarding the punishment of individuals involved in the distribution of Fentanyl, a dangerous opioid.

The Biden administration has been urging China to take action against the production of fentanyl-related substances, as the opioid crisis continues to impact thousands of lives in the United States.
