Ford Motor Company is set to reveal its “Next Model T Moment” at 10:20 a.m. ET, announcing plans to design and manufacture groundbreaking electric vehicles in the United States. The unveiling comes after Ford’s recent earnings report showed a $1.33 billion loss in its electric vehicle unit in the second quarter, despite a rise in EV revenue to $2.4 billion.
CEO Jim Farley likened the upcoming announcement to the iconic Model T moment, referencing Henry Ford’s introduction of mass production for the 1908 Model T. This innovation significantly reduced the price of vehicles at the time.
UBS analysts have tempered expectations for the event, stating that they do not anticipate any significant announcements. While a low-cost EV line may be confirmed, analysts do not expect to see actual products but rather an update on Ford’s plan to design and assemble EVs in the US. The company has delayed the release of its EV pickup and van to 2028, focusing instead on more affordable EVs.
