WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Republican chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on China has called for answers from the Commerce Department and TSMC following the discovery of a TSMC-made chip in a Huawei device.
Representative John Moolenaar stated, “Reports that cutting-edge TSMC-manufactured chips have contributed to Huawei’s AI development represent a catastrophic failure of U.S. export control policy. Congress needs immediate answers from both Commerce and TSMC about the scope and volume of this disaster.”
The Commerce Department and TSMC have not responded to requests for comment at this time.
This comes after Reuters reported earlier today that TSMC had halted shipments to a customer upon discovering that one of its chips supplied to the client had been used in a Huawei product.
