SoundHound AI (NASDAQ: SOUN) stock experienced a significant surge in this week’s trading sessions, with the company’s share price closing 48% higher than the previous week’s market close, as reported by S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Automaker Stellantis furthered its partnership with SoundHound by expanding the integration of its voice-based artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in Europe. This move is expected to drive sales for SoundHound, leading to increased investor interest in the stock.
The integration of SoundHound’s voice-based operating system in Peugeot, Opel, and Vauxhall vehicles across various European markets has been well-received. By the end of July, the technology is set to be available in 17 European markets. This expansion follows the successful integration of SoundHound’s technology in Stellantis’ DS Automobiles brand earlier this year.
In addition to these brands, Stellantis encompasses other well-known automakers such as Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, and Jeep. It is possible that SoundHound’s technologies could be adopted by other brands under the Stellantis umbrella in the near future.
Following the recent surge in its stock price, SoundHound’s market capitalization has surpassed $2 billion once again. However, the stock is still trading approximately 30.5% below its 52-week high.
SoundHound’s stock has been volatile due to the excitement surrounding AI and concerns about its long-term sales prospects. Despite delivering impressive year-over-year sales growth of 73% in its last quarterly report, the company’s sales figures remain relatively small at $11.6 million. Additionally, SoundHound reported a net loss of $33 million in the same period.
While SoundHound continues to secure significant partnerships, its ability to establish a competitive advantage and withstand market pressures remains uncertain. Given the company’s valuation and speculative outlook, it is likely that the stock will continue to experience high volatility in the near future.
