(Reuters) – OpenAI, backed by Microsoft, announced that its popular chatbot ChatGPT is back online following an outage that impacted thousands of users.
“Issues with ChatGPT have been resolved,” stated OpenAI on its website.
Most users regained access by 4:34 p.m. PT (0034 GMT on Saturday), with a small number experiencing difficulties until 5 p.m. (0100 GMT on Saturday).
CEO Sam Altman mentioned on X that ChatGPT was down for 30 minutes, expressing optimism about improving reliability in the future.
Downdetector.com reported that ChatGPT’s services were down for approximately 30 minutes, affecting over 19,403 users as of 7:13 p.m. ET (0013 GMT on Saturday).
Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has garnered 250 million weekly active users. OpenAI’s value has surged to $157 billion from $14 billion in 2021, with revenues reaching $3.6 billion from zero, surpassing Altman’s initial projections.
