‘X’ Sex-Marker On US Passports Scrapped, Outstanding Applications Suspended

The State Department has recently announced the removal of the third sex option, X, on passport application forms, citing that there are only two recognized sexes. This decision was made by the new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who emphasized that an individual’s sex is not changeable. The directive specifies that official documents, including passports, will now use sex instead of gender, as mandated by President Trump’s executive order. This order asserts that only two sexes exist and that government-issued identification must reflect an individual’s biological classification as either male or female.

The ‘X’ marker, which was introduced in 2022 by the Biden administration to recognize individuals identifying as ‘non-binary’, has now been suspended. The recent changes have sparked a debate on gender ideology and the importance of basing federal policy on truth. Critics argue that erasing sex in language and policy undermines the validity of the American system and scientific inquiry.

Supporters of the decision applaud President Trump for clarifying the biological reality of two sexes and emphasizing the importance of truth in government policies. The move to eliminate the ‘X’ marker reflects a shift towards a more binary understanding of sex and gender. This decision has polarized opinions, with some viewing it as a step towards upholding traditional values, while others see it as regressive and exclusionary.
