President’s Speech Highlights Social Issues and Economic Policies

Speculations were rife about the president’s speech, particularly regarding immigration and the economy. During the early stages of the speech, Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) voiced his opposition to cutting medicaid, leading to his expulsion from the House chamber by Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) after a second outburst.

The initial focus of the speech revolved around conservative social issues, such as transgender rights and combating “wokeness” in the federal government.

While addressing emergency price relief through an executive order and concerns over rising costs, the president briefly touched upon housing, emphasizing the need to lower mortgage rates to benefit American families.

Interest rates experienced a significant drop, as highlighted by Trump, before delving into discussions on immigration and economic policies. One notable proposal included making interest payments on American cars tax deductible and the implementation of reciprocal tariffs.

Trump justified the use of tariffs as a response to other nations imposing them on the U.S. for an extended period, stating that tariffs are crucial for the country’s integrity, despite acknowledging potential disruptions. The speech also addressed border security and criminal justice.

Although exceeding 90 minutes, the speech omitted discussions on housing, focusing instead on DOGE cuts and reducing regulations to spur economic growth.
