Trump Touts “Great Progress” In China Tariff Talks, Suggests “Total Reset” On The Table

President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the progress of U.S.-China tariff negotiations, hinting at a possibility of a “total reset” during talks in Switzerland. While no major breakthrough was announced after the 10-hour discussions, Trump remained positive about the outcome.

The talks, led by U.S. officials including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, were shrouded in secrecy. Trump took to his Truth Social platform to convey his satisfaction with the discussions, emphasizing the need for China to open up to American businesses.

Despite the lack of specific details, both sides confirmed that the talks took place at the luxurious “Villa Saladin” in Geneva. The negotiations aimed at de-escalating trade tensions between the world’s two largest economies, which have been engaged in a tariff war impacting global markets.

Trump’s use of tariffs as an economic weapon, particularly against China, has been a focal point of his administration. The ongoing negotiations seek to address issues related to trade imbalances and unfair practices in technology transfer.

While the outcome of the talks remains uncertain, there is hope for a reduction in tariffs by both countries. Analysts predict that a potential agreement could lead to a significant decrease in tariffs, providing relief to businesses dependent on U.S.-China trade.

As the negotiations continue, the focus remains on reaching a mutually beneficial resolution that addresses the longstanding trade disputes between the United States and China.
