The White House has announced a 90-day extension for TikTok to operate in the US, allowing the Chinese-owned app more time to divest its stake to comply with American regulations.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump will sign an executive order to keep TikTok running, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of user data.

Following congressional pressure, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, faced the ultimatum to sell the app or face a ban in the US. Despite previous deadlines passing without a deal, the White House is optimistic about reaching an agreement that would involve creating a US-based entity with American investors.

While negotiations have faced challenges, including China’s initial approval and subsequent withdrawal, the White House remains focused on resolving the situation amidst ongoing trade tensions.

Trump’s initial concerns about TikTok’s data collection evolved as he recognized the platform’s potential for engaging young voters. This shift in perspective led to a more favorable view of TikTok, reflecting the platform’s growing influence in the political landscape.
