Putin Preparing New Offensive After Trump Meeting, Zelensky Says, As Ukraine Softens Stance On Giving Up Territory

During his address on Monday night, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns about Russia’s lack of preparation for a peaceful settlement ahead of the upcoming Trump-Putin summit in Alaska. He stated that Russian troops are being moved in a way that suggests they are planning new offensive operations, rather than working towards peace. Zelensky emphasized that Putin is using the meeting as a personal triumph and intends to maintain military pressure on Ukraine.

Recent reports indicate Russian sabotage and reconnaissance units near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, where Russian forces have been making steady gains. Zelensky is reportedly considering giving up territory in exchange for peace, proposing a freeze on the battle line without permanent political concessions. However, it remains unclear whether Russia would agree to such terms, as they are pushing for a full Ukrainian military withdrawal from certain areas.

In the midst of escalating tensions, reports of chaos outside Pokrovsk have raised concerns about Ukraine’s defense lines. Zelensky’s leverage in negotiations appears limited, despite ongoing cross-border drone attacks. Russian advances in strategic areas further highlight the urgency for negotiations to prevent further losses.

As the summit approaches, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov hopes that the meeting between Putin and Trump will improve US-Russia relations. The Kremlin views the meeting as an opportunity to normalize bilateral relations and avoid isolation on the world stage.
