The Guide to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)

Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is a hidden gem located just 25 miles north of Miami. It’s a great alternative for travelers heading to South Florida or starting their cruise journey from Port Everglades. FLL offers a more compact and efficient experience compared to Miami International Airport, with swanky airport lounges and a growing list of domestic and international routes. The airport serves major airlines like Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, JetBlue Airways, and Spirit Airlines, making it a popular choice for affordable flights to the Caribbean, Central America, and other U.S. destinations.

With four terminals connected by walkways and shuttle buses, FLL is relatively easy to navigate, although there may be congestion during peak cruise season. Terminal 1, the Yellow Terminal, is the largest and most modern, offering plenty of seating, USB ports, and public art. Terminal 2, the Red Terminal, is dominated by Delta Air Lines and features limited dining options. Terminal 3, the Purple Terminal, connects to Terminal 4 post-security and houses an Escape Lounge. Terminal 4, the Green Terminal, is mainly used by Spirit Airlines and offers traditional Bahamian food at Kafe Kalik.

Transportation to and from FLL is convenient, with options like driving, parking, rideshares, taxis, and shuttles available. Public transit is limited, with Broward County Transit operating Route 1 to downtown Fort Lauderdale and Tri-Rail providing rail service between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. Overall, FLL provides a relaxed and convenient travel experience for those heading out on a cruise, catching a budget flight, or connecting through South Florida.
