Sweeney amends lawsuit against AIME, names UWM

Former AIME CEO Alleges Financial Misconduct and Interference from UWM

Former AIME CEO, Sweeney, has filed an amended complaint claiming that she was pressured by UWM executives to run the trade group in UWM’s interests rather than independently. AIME disputed her role as CEO, but a press release approved by Summers and DeCiantis publicly announced Sweeney as CEO in January 2021.

The complaint alleges that DeCiantis and UWM CEO Mat Ishbia pressured Sweeney to benefit UWM’s interests and prohibited promoting competing wholesale lenders. Sweeney also uncovered financial misconduct at AIME, including embezzlement by an employee using AIME funds for personal expenses.

When Sweeney requested the employee’s termination, Summers delayed it and failed to enforce a repayment plan. Despite pushing for governance reforms, Sweeney faced opposition from UWM. Sweeney eventually resigned in September 2023, with a promised bonus and severance that AIME failed to pay in full.

DeCiantis, not AIME’s president, negotiated the terms of Sweeney’s exit. AIME stopped paying severance when Sweeney went to work for Rocket Pro. Sweeney’s amended complaint charges AIME with breach of contract and DeCiantis and UWM with tortious interference with contractual relations.

Sweeney seeks all actual damages, attorneys’ fees, interest, court costs, and any other relief from the court.
