Authored by Naveen Athrappully via The Epoch Times,

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) received over 220,000 applications for 10,000 open positions at Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to a statement by ICE on Dec. 18.

DHS has successfully hired 11,751 law enforcement officers, attorneys, criminal investigators, and mission support staff, making it the most successful federal law enforcement agency recruitment campaign in American history.

The recruitment drive was launched on July 29 as part of the ICE “Defend the Homeland” initiative, supported by funding from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB), which allocates $170 billion to border security and immigration enforcement efforts.

OBBB provided ICE with $76.5 billion, including $30 billion for hiring 10,000 additional staff members.

ICE achieved its goal of hiring more than 10,000 personnel in less than a year, as announced on X on Dec. 18.

ICE Deputy Director Madison D. Sheahan commended OBBB for providing the necessary resources to enforce immigration law and emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring national security.

ICE offered attractive incentives to recruits, including a signing bonus of up to $50,000, student loan repayment of up to $60,000, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also announced new recruitment and retention incentives to attract skilled individuals to key law enforcement positions within the agency.

CBP is offering border patrol agents up to $60,000 in incentives and retention bonuses, while new Air and Marine agents can receive up to $10,000 in signing bonuses.

CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott highlighted the agency’s commitment to recruiting top talent to enhance national security.

Despite facing increased violence, ICE officers have continued their enforcement efforts. Recent data shows a significant rise in death threats and assaults against immigration enforcement officers.

Federal Immigration Enforcement

ICE and CBP have faced criticism from Democrats for their role in federal immigration enforcement.

A group of Democratic senators introduced the “Accountability for Federal Law Enforcement Act,” granting individuals the right to sue law enforcement agencies and officers for constitutional or civil violations.

This right to sue is applicable to all individuals in the United States, regardless of citizenship.

ICE focuses on arresting criminal illegal immigrants, with transparency efforts such as the “Worst of the Worst” website, which showcases profiles of criminal illegal immigrants who have been arrested and removed from communities.

DHS continues to prioritize national security through its enforcement actions and transparency initiatives.
