“Subversion of Real Estate License Examination Content Results in $60,000 Settlement”

Jeff Oboyski, assistant commissioner of the California Department of Real Estate (CDRE), emphasized the seriousness with which the department takes the subversion of real estate license examination content. He stated, “Ensuring that those who attempt to compromise the integrity of our real estate license exams are held accountable for their actions underscores DRE’s commitment to consumer protection.”

Following a settlement, McHarg and Real Estate Trainers, Inc. (RETI) are required to pay $60,000 in monetary penalties, damages, and investigation/litigation costs incurred by the CDRE.

As part of the settlement, McHarg is prohibited from participating in any California real estate license examinations and holding a real estate license for three years. He is also barred from any involvement in a real estate business offering exam preparation or education courses.

In addition, McHarg’s former firm and all affiliated individuals are banned from applying for or participating in California real estate license examinations. They are also prohibited from offering courses that use questions from DRE license exams for three years. RETI must remove McHarg from any role within the company.

Despite multiple attempts, RETI and McHarg have not responded to HousingWire’s request for comment.
