Turkey Says It Foiled Iranian Intelligence Plot At US Incirlik Base

According to reports from Turkish and Middle Eastern sources, Iranian intelligence allegedly attempted to spy on the major US airbase at Incirlik, resulting in the arrest of a cell of Iranian agents. The operation, led by Iranian intelligence members codenamed “Haji” and “Doctor”, involved hiring individuals to gather photos and videos of the Incirlik Air Base in Adana. This base, jointly controlled by Ankara and Washington, has been a key location for US and allied covert operations, including efforts to oust Assad in Syria.

The tension in the region has been exacerbated by a US military build-up in the Gulf and threats of action against Tehran by President Trump. Amidst these developments, Iranian officials have issued warnings of potential retaliation against US bases in the region in the event of an attack on Iran. The recent uncovering of the Iranian spy network targeting Incirlik has raised concerns about the security of regional US bases.

The Turkish government, despite its alliance with the US, is cautious about getting involved in any new regime change war in Iran, as it could lead to a refugee crisis and destabilize the region. Turkey shares a significant border with Iran, and both countries have been working to maintain stable relations amidst escalating tensions. The details of the espionage operation and the extent of the information obtained by the Iranian agents remain undisclosed at this time.

The news of the Iranian spy network has gained attention from international media outlets, including The Washington Post, highlighting the significance of the incident in the current geopolitical context. The situation continues to evolve as US-Iran relations remain tense, with the potential for further escalation on the horizon.
