Last week, the Los Angeles City Council entertained a proposal that defies belief:
“I’d like to propose that Los Angeles consider a pilot program for free hygienic sexual relief clinics, primarily serving the homeless and unhoused. This means equality. It means private sexual relief through masturbation, or where appropriate and consensual, with a partner. All funded by tax dollars and managed with professional oversight. It’s about allowing the homeless to have the same comforts and privacy as we have today.”
Yes, you read that correctly. This proposal was actually put forward, and shockingly, the person behind it was not immediately removed from the premises. Judging by the individual’s language, it appeared as though they were affiliated with a non-governmental organization.
One can only wonder what exactly “professional oversight” entails in the context of observing these inappropriate behaviors and who would be responsible for such a task.
Let’s not forget that Los Angeles is facing a $97 million deficit, yet continues to offer a plethora of free services to the ever-expanding homeless population – ranging from dental care, food, showers, tents, sleeping bags, socks, mental health support, bus passes, drug paraphernalia, and in some cases, even drugs. Despite these extensive efforts, the issue of homelessness persists, with no real solutions in sight.
Now, the proposition of free masturbation centers is being introduced as a solution to prevent individuals from engaging in inappropriate behavior in public spaces. However, history has shown that providing free drug paraphernalia only exacerbated the drug problem rather than alleviating it. The idea that offering free facilities for such activities will not have negative repercussions on the broader community is naive at best.
It is likely that this repugnant proposal will gain traction among similar organizations globally. Recently, a former British politician suggested the establishment of government-funded brothels to cater to illegal migrants, a concept that has now seemingly inspired similar initiatives in Los Angeles. This trend indicates a disturbing pattern of exploiting taxpayer funds to perpetuate harmful practices within society.
It is appalling to witness these groups resorting to such deplorable measures in pursuit of financial gain while disregarding the well-being of the community.
Assisting the homeless should not entail enabling their destructive behaviors to facilitate a more comfortable state of homelessness. Instead, the focus should be on addressing substance abuse issues and facilitating employment opportunities to break the cycle of homelessness. However, these proponents of perverse ideas seem to prioritize their own agendas over the genuine welfare of the homeless population.
